marietta-corpuz-mancup-tbRaising funds on Twitter isn’t just about getting money for your charity. It’s about connecting with people, creating awareness and it’s about giving.

Over the last several months people around the world have tweeted, re-tweeted and donated for an Opportunity International Australia microfinance program in the Philippines. As I write this, an incredible AUD$7,000 has been raised online with 24 hours to go before my fundraiser finishes.

TwiTip Reader Review: HootSuite

by Jeff Russell- Follow him @iapam

Like many of you, I’m a member of so many social media networks, the last thing I wanted to do is join another one.  But this Twitter thing just kept coming up over and over again. I kept thinking what am I going to do with a microblogging service that is limited to only 140 characters? My time is limited as it is, and if I’m going to invest my time, like any business expense, I want to know my ROI. Yes, it really comes down to how is getting a Twitter account going to make me MONEY!

Well, after creating an account, and identifying and following key people in the my industries, I knew this was like nothing else out there.  Not only did I create one Twitter account for business-related tweets, but I quickly created another account for my Foodie alter-ego. I use twitter to keep up to date on the latest breaking news, industry trends, my competition, as well as getting creative ideas for articles and marketing.

Answer A Reader Question: Twitter Bullies

Here’s another reader question that I’m going to post for the masses to help answer:

I’m having a hard time with some of the drama that happens on Twitter. Sometimes I find people being harsh to people I follow, and watching them go through the emotions in 140 characters over and over again can really get to me. Some of these people tend to seek out the drama, so the answer to that issue is simply removing them from my list, but there are others that tend to get bullied sometimes, without due cause. My protective nature wants to jump in sometimes and help to defend them, RT’ing all the attacks that are headed their way, and trying to knock down the bully. But then the other part of me is worried about damaging my own personal brand by doing so… by getting involved. It’s a struggle I deal with not often, but more often than I’d like.I don’t want to unfollow these people, but I also have a hard time keeping my mouth shut. I usually wind up trying to just get out of Twitter for a while in order to avoid it, hoping it’ll go away. But that too always winds up leaving me feeling like I’m missing out on other things, other opportunities to see the good stuff Twitter’s made of.

What’s the best way to handle oneself in a situation where someone you enjoy reading either becomes a bully, or becomes victim to one? – Name withheld

Have you witnessed bullying on Twitter? How do you handle it? Do you feel good about the way you do?

7 ‘Secret’ Ways To Use Twitter Search

By Thomas Baekdal. Follow him @baekdal.

Twitter Search is just amazing because it can give you real-time feedback about pretty much everything. That is, if you know how to look for it. Here is how:

Before we start I need to point out that both TweetDeck and Seesmic (my two favorite Twitter apps – with Seesmic being the #1) allows you to open special search panels, allowing you to “follow” a search term, instead of a person.

This is a great way to keep on top of things.

The Secrets…

1: Get up to speed with all the latest buzz

The primary way that I keep up-to-speed on social networking is to follow a social networking search. For instance, let say you want to get all the new links about social media, not including the many re-tweets that people make.

Simply search for:

“social web” OR “social media” OR “social news” -rt filter:links

Answer A Reader Question: Twitter Etiquette?

We’ve got another reader question for the TwiTip masses to answer:

Is there a twitter etiquette for gratitude? If someone says thanks, I reply with a variation of “you’re welcome” and I’m very likely to say thank you as well. I guess it was my upbringing that did this to me! – UBLF

Personally, I agree that it’s important to acknowledge someone’s thanks, be it on Twitter or in the offline world. How do you say “you’re welcome” or “thank you”? The question states that UBLF responds “with a variation” – what’s your way?
