Twitizen Journalism: Can Twitter Be a Real News Platform?

Twitter and Journalism might not be two words you’d normally put in the same sentence – but today Jason Preston from Eat Sleep Publish (follow him at @jasonp107) asks if Twitter can be a real news platform? We’d love to hear your opinion in comments.

For centuries, “journalist,” “reporter,” and “newsman,” have been reasonably interchangeable. After all, a reporter often works for a newspaper or TV station, where they are employed to do journalism.

But recent trends in publishing and digital tools have required that we look at new definitions for these words. Being a journalist has started to mean being someone who ties stories together into a narrative, whatever the medium.

How do these differences apply to Twitter?

Do you Use Twitter More or Less on the Weekend? [POLL]

I asked this of my followers on Twitter a while back and the result was fairly split (although perhaps it ended up being that people used Twitter slightly more during the week) but I wanted to ask it again in a more formal Poll.

Do You Use Twitter More or Less on the Weekend?

I’d also be interested to hear whether your use of Twitter changes on the weekend? Does it become more personal, is it more about ‘catching up’ on sharing some links that you didn’t get to during the week, are your tweets perhaps a little more ‘inebriated’ on the weekend :-) ?

Interested to see the poll results but also hear your comments on this one!

How Would You Improve Twitter?

Time for a hypothetical question/discussion:

How would you improve Twitter?

Lets just say Twitter have pulled the readership of TwiTip into their offices for a focus group (actually…. lets make it that they fly us all to Hawaii for a week of short daily focus groups….). They want to talk to real Twitter users of all experience levels who are using Twitter in a variety of ways to find out how they’d like to see Twitter develop over the coming year.

What would you say? What features would you like to see added (or removed) from Twitter? How could the service be improved, enhanced and made more useful to you?

Looking forward to hear your thoughts – it is over to you!

Do You Log In to Twitter.com To Tweet? [POLL]

I’ve added a new poll to our sidebar poll rotation (there are two now). This one is attempting to gauge how many people actually log into Twitter.com to Tweet and how many people use some kind of external client (like Twhirl, TweetDeck, Ping.fm etc).
