When I first discovered there were APIs that would allow me to schedule tweets, I thought I was in Twitter Heaven. I could schedule a time to tweet everything I wanted ahead time, and I’d never have to worry about missing an opportunity to promote my site. (Yeah, I was still residing in Spamville back then.) So I scheduled my list of tweets and didn’t think twice about it…until I noticed a few followers started dropping off. (more…)

Use Mixero to Reduce Twitter Noise
If you follow a lot of people on Twitter, you have probably already faced an information overload problem. When choosing who to follow, you would probably read their recent tweets and decide if the person is interesting to you. But not all the people always tweet about something as important or interesting for you as when you decided to follow them.
As the number of people you follow grows, the number of junk tweets that you get in your Friends Timeline grows as much or even faster. So after a time, you end up with never ending stream of some tweets most of which are not even close to what you actually hoped to read. The situation gets worse when the people you follow are your friends and you don’t want to offend them by clicking the ‘Unfollow’ button. (more…)
How To Follow Any Twitter List In An RSS Reader
Editor’s Note: Here’s a quick little post with a great idea. I never even thought of organizing list following this way! Great tip, Mana! – Lara
Tweets are very similar to article headlines so an RSS feed may be the right solution for those who want to read tweets alongside their news in a reader. Twitter has an RSS solution only for Favorites, so what to do about the other lists?
Here is a very simple and quick solution:
- Create a list of tweeps you’d like to follow, or simply access an existing list. If you haven’t created a list before, look in the right column of your Twitter account and click “New list.” Then follow the flow.
- Copy URL of list.
- Go to http://twiterlist2rss.appspot.com/ and follow the two easy steps needed to generate an RSS feed.
- Copy the generated RSS url
- Enter RSS url in your reader to create subscription
To read multiple lists just repeat the process.

Opt Out of Auto-DMs Using Social Oomph
A recent poll here on Twitip asked:
“What do you think when you get an automated ‘Thanks for following’ DM?”
The results ranged from “I love them”, “I hate them” and “I don’t mind them” to “I unfollow the person who sent it”.
So, for those of you who hate them and unfollow tweeps who send them, Social Oomph has a super quick and easy way to opt out of auto-DMs. (more…)
Review of The Twit Cleaner
I’ve posted before about how certain features can improve your twitter experience. These required a lot of research. After reading hundreds of blog posts, I’ve gained a new appreciation of twitter applications. One of them is The Twit Cleaner.
I primarily use the web interface. I leave tweetdeck on when I’m busy but I’ll use the web to really dive into conversations. I follow over 1000 and, despite being really picky with my return follows, started to find my friends where getting drowned out. I needed help but didn’t want to spend hours manually going through my list. This is where The Twit Cleaner literally saved my twitter stream. (more…)
EventVue Chatter – A better way to follow event hashtags
EventVue chatter, a recently developed tool for watching events in real time, is the easiest and fastest way to interact with an event. From big time conferences like South by Southwest to the simplest daily trending topics, EventVue Chatter is the best way to follow the online conversation.
With Chatter, simply enter any hashtag and a live stream will be created. Much like Twitter search, Chatter displays the recent tweets for an event (hashtag). But where Chatter shines is in the available functionality. Unlike Twitter search, Tweets will instantly flow into the stream never forcing you to refresh the page. (more…)
Spread Christmas Cheer with ‘Naughty or Nice’ Twitter App
Digital creative agency Collective has unveiled their ‘Naughty or nNce’ Twitter-driven app, featuring their very own Collective Santa. Users can find out whether they’ve made it onto Santa’s Naughty or Nice List before discovering what they deserve in return.

Visitors enter their Twitter username to wake Santa from his snooze. They can then watch as Santa checks their tweets for various naughty or nice key words while he boogies to the music. Once the results are in, Santa responds by telling the user if they are naughty or nice and what they deserve this Christmas (anything from a “ruddy good talking to” to “a little donkey”). (more…)
Why It Pays To Purge – When and How to Unfollow
As much as many of us like to think that we’re highly organized and efficient when it comes to our use of Twitter, there is in fact a lot we can do to make our lives easier.
In the last couple of weeks I’ve adopted some fairly radical measures to streamline and improve my use of Twitter, which I’ll share with you here.
1 – Cut the Number of People You Follow
The temptation when you first start using Twitter is to embark on a ‘follow rampage’. You add the news sites you read, the bloggers you respect, friends, family, colleagues, business contacts and in turn many of the people that follow or are followed by these accounts.
This seems like a great idea at first, but you find you soon reach a tipping point – in my own case, by following close to 2000 people, Twitter had become nothing more than a never-ending deluge of noise, with useful and informative Tweets getting lost amongst the junk. Even by setting up user lists in Seesmic Desktop (the desktop app I use), I was finding it ever harder to keep up. (more…)
Embed a Geo-tagged Twitter Picture Map in Any Blog
Over the last few days I’ve been playing around with Mobypicture.com and more precisely their Geo-tagged picture map feature. I’ve found a way to have a map embedded on any blog that automatically centres on the last picture uploaded. What’s more it’s all done from a mobile phone… Perfect for any Travel Blog…
Other features include:
- Micro-blogging and blogging brought together.
- Automatic posting to twitter and Facebook etc.
- One simple upload from any GPS enabled phone perfect for travellers on the road.
- Centres on last uploaded picture.
Have a look at our Geo-Tagged Picture map. (might still have issues with Internet explorer, that’s not the map, it’s my limited code knowledge). (more…)
