Do You Have any Resolutions, Goals or Plans for Your Use of Twitter in 2009?

It’s that time of year when many of us take a little time out to reflect upon how we want to move forward into 2009 in different areas of our lives. I know for some TwiTip readers that they’re using the new year as a line in the sand for changing the way that they use Twitter.

I’m interested to know if anyone would like to share their plans, resolutions and goals for their use of Twitter in 2009?

Are you making any changes or are you Tweeting as Normal?

I’m definitely trying to Tweet better, higher quality tweets this year. A few things I read recently really resounded with me; first, when replying to people, to make the tweet a tweet on it’s own, not just ‘me too’. I’ve also decided to post more interesting content, links to things I’ve read etc. And I’d like to thank you for your recommendation of the Tweetbar and TweetDeck- I think both these tools are going to help me enormously in boosting the quality of my tweets!

    Hey Darren!

I’ll do this in 14o characters or less.. hopefully.

I think i would consider myself new to twitter, but i learned a lot by being connected to professionals such as you Darren, John Chow, and much more people, i learned how you guys benefit out of it, what you guys do and what you don’t. Earlier i though that Twitter is just “What are you doing now” thing, which is pretty boring, now i have designed my own thoughts of how i can benefit out of twitter for my blog in terms of monetizing, branding, awareness, and much more! Traffic is such an important and essential tool for any BUSINESS not just from bloggers and their blogs! I preparing a post on Weblist about twitter and i will share it with you.

    Thanks Darren

Twitter will be an even bigger part of my life in ‘09 as more and more new people join Twitter.
For me, it will become ubiquitous.

  • January 4, 2009

I remember when I joined twitter, I added you (Darren) and you tweeted something like “this is my bro in law, add him” Now, the funny thing is, we’re connected via lots of means – facebook / flickr, and most importantly DPS.. The funny thing is, I’m not a blogger (really) but all of the people that followed me as a result of your tweet are blog / seo type peoiple, online marketing type folk… What I’ve learned from this is that as a photographer, its VERY important to diversify who you follow (in different industries) for example, if I just followed photogs I’d get lots of photog news and not a lot else – by following different key people from various other ’sections’ of the internet, I learn lots more about things that are related, but not directly connected to my area of interest… (Does this make any sense?! I can’t read it back, my blackberry hates me today!)

  • January 4, 2009

First of all, I want to extend my Twitter network and keep learning about its potential. Then, I’ll try to share this stuff with other people. ;)

  • January 4, 2009

maximise followers and web profile :-)

  • January 4, 2009

Twitter is going to be one of the most important internet marketing tool in 2009 for most of us.

My goals and plans for twitter in 2009 are:

    1) Creating a strong network of at least 2000 peers in similar niche (I’m not talking about followers count)
    2) Providing consistent ‘Value Tweets (Resources and tips links)’ to my followers, who are now accustomed to it.
    3) To learn more better ways to harness the power of twitter by reading killer tips on Twitip :D

  • January 4, 2009

    Simple:

    1) Use it every day, even if just 10 minutes
    2) Promote others more than myself
    3) Integrate more personal and professional elements of my life into Twitter without boring or alienating all my followers

  • January 4, 2009

I will continue to use twitter as a research and educational resource. I’ve learned so much in a few months, that would have taken me a year.

As far as growing a network, I’ll have to manage to keep my PR, social media, music, life coach, business, and personal friends in balance. I don’t want to expand to multiple accounts.

  • January 4, 2009

I would like to have at least 1000 followers which is not just my hunger for promotion, but i feel that when i tweet there, people should reply and make good conversations, so that i feel i have real good number of friends at twitter :)

  • January 4, 2009

Sime, that makes total sense. I find it really interesting and use it more all the time. I follow people in the same industry as me (for relevance) and also people with different interests (because they bring new things and perspectives which connect on a different level).

I’m going to keep on using Twitter to be inspired and to learn from the things that people write. And hopefully, be able to give the same back.

  • January 4, 2009

I don’t have number of follower goals, rather “engagement” goals. And for me it is starting with a habit. Using TweetDeck, I’ll be monitoring specific keyword interests and simply @ reply and enter those conversations. Three times each day, jump in for 10 minutes – and set a timer so it doesn’t kill my overall productivity.

Just from being engaged, I believe that the right trends will happen: closer connections rather than huge numbers.

  • January 4, 2009

I think my actual tweeting is coming along nicely, but I definitely need to start following some more people, and getting a diverse range of people.

I do find that Twitter breaks news faster than most blogs or websites and that is amazing. I want more!

  • January 4, 2009

If I continue tweeting “as normal,” I’m going to end up in a 12 Step program of recovery for people smitten with (ok, addicited to) social media.

  • January 4, 2009

    Hi Darren,

I planned to quit tweeting my life away as a New Year’s resolution. That didn’t happen. January 6th, I will get a forced Twittervention. I will leave my computer at home and go on vacation.

    Joy~

Twitter is fast becoming my social network of choice. In 2009, I hope to increase traffic to my website and make new friends with Twitter. Watch out, the genealogists are coming to Twitter!

  • January 4, 2009

My Tweeting really dropped off over the holidays and some traveling. So I’d like to get back where I was two weeks ago – I actually *miss* it (she types, somewhat embarrassed!)

  • January 4, 2009

I am very new to Twitter.Started using this service actively only a few days ago. I have certainly got some plans with it.Here are my plans-

1)Build a network – This is my No. 1 priority. I see Twitter as a place where you can have a nice chat with your peers. Since most of the Twitter users are still very new (70% of them joined it in 2008) ,so, I am seeing a nice opportunity to network with other without getting distracted by spam I get on other social media sites.

2)Another way to keep your readers updated- Since I am a blogger and with a blogger’s perspective ,I see Twitter as another way to update your readers. I use Twitterfeed for the purpose. This tool twits about the new posts on my blog ,Something like this-”New post on Blog Tutorial- ”

    3) Get new readers for my blog Although I am still in early days of Twittering but I have seen some new readers coming to my blog through Twitter. Though I am not getting much traffic from it right now but I am expecting some more as I become more involved.

  • January 4, 2009

I just started using Twitter in conjunction with my Blog a few weeks ago and I have seen plenty of ways for it to add value for myself and for my readers. I just need to start building a plan to use it more often myself, but also to come back here to read all of the great ideas and resources that you provide.

  • January 4, 2009

I have only been using Twitter for six months. Just this week, I started using Google Reader to aggregate feeds of interesting Twitter Searches, and plan to do more of that in 2009.

Also, we will be exploring how to use Twitter as one of the basic community feeds on micro-local blogs, as a foundation for C3 – Complete Community Connection. You can track our progress at http://cpetersia.wordpress.com

We will need all the help we can get!

  • January 4, 2009

-Tweet more often on my own, instead of mostly @Replies
-Find more tweeters relevant to my niche, instead of only fellow bloggers
-Give more thoughts on my niche in addition to personal observations
    -Change my name?

  • January 4, 2009

Tweeting as normal, plus a bit more thanks to iPhone and car charger. ;-P Oh yeah — and recognizing and retweeting good and tweetworthy tweets when I spot ‘em.

  • January 4, 2009

Like Amy said above, my Twitter use dropped dramatically during the holidays, but my Twitter activity will get back to “normal” if not increased in due course.

I don’t have any Twitter Resolutions per se, just continuing to engage in conversation and adding value to followers, as well as showcasing great posts from others by linking and/or RT’s.

  • January 4, 2009

I want to share more of the interesting articles I find in my blog feed and while surfing.

  • January 4, 2009

My goals for twitter in 2009 are: more than 5 000 followers and PR5.
But really I need more great ideas and good friends. I wish you that in 2009.

  • January 4, 2009

Integrating twitter into my workflow and I mean work as in job as well as in blogging (which is not my work unfortunately). See also this blog post: http://tinyurl.com/8rgygc
    Take care, Dr Shock

  • January 4, 2009

Mostly the same approach, but with more concentration on building even stronger relationships with the cutting edge of social media.
And, of course, my continued rants about twitter spammers and black hatters.

  • January 4, 2009

I plan to add a background to my profile page. Also, to be engaged with twitter for breif periods throughout the workday.

  • January 4, 2009

I’m just getting into Twitter after some resistance because of not really getting what it was about. When I saw CNN getting people to tweet their messages I knew I had to find out. I definitely plan to tweet more. I just need another 10 hours in the day. Thanks for this Tweet Tip page – I’ve mentioned it to other Tweeer resisters.

  • January 4, 2009

Goals for Twitter. Hmmm, great question.

I like Rajeev’s idea of building a network of peers. It means being able to share useful information, thoughts and ideas with those who can use them and who are sharing with you as well. We all gain something by sharing more.

Josh’s point of more and more people joining the Twitter tour bus will be important. More people to bring into our own involvement areas, gain from, share with (there is what Twitter seems to be about, sharing)…

Finally, focus. Figure out what in the world I want Twitter to do for whatever it is I am doing. Twitter is not the end all, but it is a pretty awesome part to the madness.

I have many goals for my life on the internet.
Have more conversations. When we follow the right people we learn much, and I plan to tweet things of value in return. Of course more more followers would be fun. I have 60 followers now, my goal for this 2009 is 500.

  • January 4, 2009

I have just started with twitter. I want use twitter for sharing my findings with my followers. I share tech news in general, web and mac os x apps and stuff linke web development. I haven’t figured out right now how to manage following many people. Therefore I need tools enabling different topics and categories. Any suggestions? I just have found tweatdeck which seems promising. are there similar native mac os x tools?

  • January 4, 2009

I plan on trying to be more engaging on Twitter – interact more with those that I follow and those that follow me. I also plan on gaining more followers.

  • January 4, 2009

I want to follow more people and take part in more conversations. I’ll try to see what my followers tweet about — those whom I do not follow — and talk to them.

  • January 4, 2009

Here are I main Twitter resolutions:
    1) Participate in more actual conversations. Sometimes I feel like I’m just talking to myself, and I want to get out and mingle more.
    2) Follow more people outside of my niche.
    3) Network with some of my tweeps offline.

  • January 4, 2009

I plan to either schedule ReTweets or save those I want to R/T as favorites and retweet ‘em later. Everyone benefits.

There’s a lot of “birds of a feather” on Twitter, so an immediate retweet can sometimes be redundant. Holding off just a bit or scheduling for a future R/T benefits original author, you and your followers.

  • January 4, 2009

Tweet more and keep things interesting. Keep on interacting and finding more people to interact on Twitter with.

These aren’t terribly formal resolutions, and really have nothing to do with the new year. Just what I should be doing anyhow.

  • January 4, 2009

We (@gwenbell/@jlongtine) are live-tweeting/-streaming our wedding 03.06.09. The goal? To further employ social media to share our happiness+love with friends around the globe.

  • January 4, 2009

Yes! I have started a new experiment on Twitter I call TwEating. I post everything I eat (and sometimes Twink). Obviously it’s not too detailed or graphic, but if there’s space I try to give some insight as well. I recently started a food/health/nutrition blog and people are always asking me how I would eat in this situation or that situation. Now they can see every situation! It is starting to catch on a little. Friends are reporting their memorable meals, etc. Fun so far :)

  • January 4, 2009

My goal for twitter usage in 2009 is to get to 1,000 followers!

  • January 4, 2009

I will be tweeting as normal, however I will keep in mind what Guy Kawasaki says about twitter, and that is “Twitter is my weapon”

  • January 4, 2009

I’ll be using it to dig deeping into different market verticals such as health care and faith based ministries. I’ve spent a LOT of time learning from pro’s like you, @chrisbrogan, @mitchjoel, @scoble, @joywag, @shelisrael, and on and on and on … from that i’ve added a lot of content to my RSS and follow a lot of people in the social media world on Twitter. I plan on branching out more and i’m sure this will be driven by the types of projects and speaking engagements i get involved in.

Hello and Happy New Year! I just started to use Twitter, but I will learn about it and try to use it effective.

  • January 5, 2009

    Get over 2000 followers.

  • January 5, 2009

Follow smart people, learn and share so it adds more value to my readers.

  • January 6, 2009

In my case its turn one of my twitter account in a full English account, and continue whit my other account juts how am right know, of course improving day to day.

  • January 8, 2009

Just started using Twitter in Sept with room for improvement.

My primary goal for Twitter in 2009 is to Connect, Cultivate & Contribute:
Connect: Proactively seek interesting people to follow both in my market and those who share my interests/background
Cultivate: Check in with 1-3 followers a day whom I haven’t directly engaged in the last 2 weeks to see what they’ve been up to.
Contribute: Spend a minimum of 20 minutes a day focused on sharing a resource and/or reviewing the chat stream for any problems that I can help resolve.

There’s a bunch of other stuff but if I master the habit of these 3 things, I believe I will become a better Twitterer
