Do You Use Twitter for Business or Pleasure? (or Both)

It always amazes me how many people critique Twitter for being trivial due to everyone tweeting about the minute and mundane personal aspects of their day to day life – however the more I’ve interacted on Twitter the more I see people are using it for so many other purposes, quite often as part of their business (or at least for some kind of professional purpose).

So I thought it’d make an interesting question for some discussion – are you using Twitter for business or professional purposes or are you using it more in a personal, social or fun way? Or…. are you a little like me…. and use it for a bit of both?

Lets have some discussion – how do you use Twitter?

PS: a followup question – have you always used Twitter in the way that you now do? As I look at my own use of Twitter I’d say that I’ve gone through phases which have been more ‘personal’ and more related to my work. But perhaps that is just me?

99% Personal and 1% business. That said, I’m relatively new to twitter.

  • March 2, 2009

business, always for business and have been growing steadily in followers.

I also follow twitterers that interest me including many other business twitterers but I do not follow everyone who follows me.

I DO NOT FOLLOW MAKE MONEY ONLINE TWITS!

  • March 2, 2009

I use Twitter for both business and pleasure.
Yes, there are phases. Right now I am going through one :-)

  • March 2, 2009

90% business–advertising, marketing, research transformation, use of social media for listening as opposed to only doing surveys

  • March 2, 2009

For me Twitter is both; I’ve connected with friends, found new ones, and also networked with tons of people in the environmental movement that’s driven traffic to my blog, and helped me discover new resources.

  • March 2, 2009

I use Twitter only for personal uses. Though i do use it sometimes to promote my blog. Its a great source for blog traffic

  • March 2, 2009

I use it for both but the main thing I like to do is keep it real. I am not looking to make millions off Twitter or indeed have the most followers – I just want to interact with others, share and receive interesting facts, snippets of info or just get/give a friendly hi and a by-product of this is my business hopefully will get a better profile. (It is also handy to stay in touch with family, friends and clients in a simple real-time way.)

  • March 2, 2009

I have most often used it for pleasure, will be changing shortly to a combination of both. I definitely go through phases, more often using twitter and then not using, my bad. I intend on not letting that happen again.

  • March 2, 2009

I definitely use it for both business and pleasure. There’s not question that Twitter is fun and a great way to pass the time and interact, but it’s the potential for networking and staying in touch with business partners which makes it so great. The question is how much you devote to each, I think for our job’s sakes we’re going to keep that private though ;-)

  • March 2, 2009

We have a lifestyle blog and we find that twitter is the perfect lifestyle tool for expressing the essence of our blog i.e. “living in the now” and just plain being.

  • March 2, 2009

definitely both for mee too. and the categories business and pleasure dont even do the service justice, i have come across dozens of uses and seriously believe it has rocketed to the top tier of social media already

  • March 2, 2009

Just starting using Twitter 24hrs ago, and found that this user friendly application is a great tool for business and personal interests. One we can share our ideas and interests on all levels. Two provide feed back to other areas of interest all in real time, which is excellent for keeping up to speed and communicating on latests posts.

  • March 2, 2009

I use it for both. My tweets typically cover what is going at work, interesting bits of information in my professional field (for networking,) and what I am doing at the moment.

  • March 2, 2009

Twitter, like much of my time I spent trawling the net, is to an extent about business, but also largely about ideas that people are sharing, and keeping connected.

I find out about interesting new software and business ideas on Twitter first, and found the coverage on the bush fires a long way ahead of main media.

  • March 2, 2009

I use twitter for both personal and business. I find it is a great way to interact with people to begin with on a personal level, which more often or not leads to business possibilities.

  • March 2, 2009

I use it mostly for pleasure, with a bit of blog promotion on the side. Yes, there are definitely phases of Tweeting.

As for the recent Twitter dumpings. I hate it when people rant about the dumping followers/following thing. Bottom line is you can do what you choose to with your account. Because it is YOUR account! I honestly don’t get the sense of following too much people if you don’t find most of their tweets interesting. You barely see anything worthwhile on your timeline if you have lots of followers.

  • March 2, 2009

We use it for both but keep separate accounts. One for personal and one for business. Granted there’s intermixing depending on who’s logged in where but we do try to keep them separate.

For business, it’s a plus for giving status reports, quick pointers, news docs, and the like. It’s a minus because endusers think it;s another avenue for support requests. 140 characters for describe what problem you’re having is not viable.

  • March 2, 2009

I use twitter for my business, and for personal use. It’s a good way to tie things together online, and also interact with people in lots of different fields.

  • March 2, 2009

I do use twitter for both business and for some leisure time.. Even plurk is also gud..

  • March 2, 2009

I’m using Twitter pretty much the same way as you do ;-)
In the beginning it was only a fun way to inform a community what I’m up to – travelling, reading, working,… It was an easy way to stay connected wherever I was and whatever I was doing.
In the meantime I use it more for a professional purpose, posting on interesting articles or websites I found or re-tweeting posts from others. But mainly it complements my blog to inform about new posts.
However, that doesn’t necessarily mean I’m not using Twitter for personal tweets anymore. The usage has just shifted a bit towards professional usage.

  • March 2, 2009

I feel that, for me at least, business and pleasure are so intertwined. The work that I do is such a huge part of my self-identity, so all the ways in which I interact with others in my field brings me a ton of pleasure. And because I have side interests in mentoring and career coaching, all the ways in which I RT and share helpful content from others is also incredibly fulfilling.

When I first started out on Twitter, I didn’t know what in heck I was doing, and many of my tweets detailed the minutiae of my daily life, such as my caffeine consumption. I still tweet about my caffeine habits, but my feed as a whole has become more targeted, simultaneously benefiting my career and my personal well-being.

  • March 2, 2009

    Darren,

In my case, I use Twitter for business first and pleasure second. Twitter is THE social media to do “networking in 140 characters” with other biz owners, clients and partners.

  • March 2, 2009

I use twitter for both.. Business and Pleasure.

  • March 2, 2009

It depends on what you mean by “business” and “pleasure” – for me both are one and the same, I’m using internet for so long everything is blending :)

  • March 2, 2009

I use it mainly for business/networking. It’s great for finding new info/contacts, for sharing knowledge I have (or have found) and for getting different perspectives from others.

As with face-to-face conversations, it would get boring for me and others if I didn’t get personal occasionally. I try to make personal tweets interesting and hopefully avoid the mundane stuff: knowing someone is currently ‘drinking coffee’ or ‘waiting for a train’ doesn’t interest me so I’m sure it doesn’t interest others!

My rule of thumb: if you wouldn’t SMS/text it to a close friend, don’t tweet it to your casual contacts…

  • March 2, 2009

I use Twitter to promote my blog which I consider it as my online business.

  • March 2, 2009

I use twitter for both. I have to be honest, but I prefer reading Twitter rather than twitting itself, but when I do it will either to be to announce a new post on my blog or to go on about sport, life etc…

  • March 2, 2009

My tweets are usually business related. Now and then I’ll have something slightly personal but even then it’s usually something what I’m doing that relates to my business.

I never tweet about “I’m eating a steak dinner at Ruth’s Chris” it would be something more along the lines “Eating a steak dinner at Ruth’s Chris, props to {insert companies name and URL} for the invite and free dinner”. Basically a plug for an industry related business/company buying me a free dinner.

Tweets like this can work great at conventions and trade shows. You get invites and dinners because they know you might plug them in a tweet or blog post.

However I do have several friends and industry related friends that use Twitter for more personal reasons. I guess my @replies could be considered personal and not always business related. I never NOT reply just do the fact it’s personal. UNLESS it’s really personal. :)

  • March 2, 2009

I use it to personalize my business.

  • March 2, 2009

I use Twitter as “me” which means mostly personal but also some business. Twitter for me is about conversations, it is my virtual water cooler, and I love to learn and share.

  • March 2, 2009

Like any offline social gathering, Twitter brings me into contact with people of all kinds to whom I relate on many levels, so for me it is a place of pleasure and of business, mainly the latter because I only do business with people whom I am pleased to know :-)

  • March 2, 2009
    Bai Zijian

I would say mostly for business. But at times also sharing some of the interesting tips and articles that I do find with followers.

  • March 2, 2009

I use twitter on many different levels. Personal, business, fun
I post about my day – work, kids, mundane stuff
I promote my business from time to time, links to blog, informational links to industry related stuff, promote friends/peers, occasional product referral
    Real time search for information
But also I enjoy the fun stuff like twitter parties and just seeing what everyone else has to say

  • March 2, 2009

I would say that business and pleasure are more and more the same. I communicate through twitter mostly with pleasure, but I have built a nice network for doing business as a result. I usually find it less interesting to connect with people who use a personal handle to clearly do nothing but business.

BUT if businesses communicate in a personal and interesting way that makes me feel like they bring something to the table without wanting to convince that I can make lots of money sitting at home surfing the internet, I might be interested in following them as well.

I am a strong believer in the power of B2U instead of B2B and B2C. You are you weather at work or not.

    So I basically agree with:
    @stephauteri
    @Usarzewicz

  • March 2, 2009

I use it mostly for business, promoting and engaging in eye care and LASIK topics. I also like to join conversations in topics that interest me personally.

  • March 2, 2009

..my business is my pleasure… not sure if that’s good English or not.. ;)

Not been long on Twitter – be is most definitive defining my personal and business approach one tweet at a time.

With Twitter ‘Change has come’ – and adapting to that change is a challenge for all of us. But it is a lot of fun. Doing business has never been as fun as now. This is the new time – let all go out there and have fun with our business…

    Cheers… :)

  • March 2, 2009

I would say use it mostly for pleasure, even if I promote my blog now and then.

I also tend to ignore and even block some “businesses”. One of my followers have taken a break from Twitter just because there’s too much “businesses” on Twitter at the moment. Which I partly agree, but instead of leaving Twitter, as stated, I ignore and even block.

The reason I write’ “businesses”, is because those I’ve seen so far promoting their “business” is either spammers, scammers or just horrible at PR. I think the reason for the last one, horrible at PR, is that Twitter is a social networking site. As for my friend, and me, we treat Twitter as a hangout for friends, and being bombarded by even more ads gets a bit annoying. The first extension I install in Firefox is Adblock Plus; which means I don’t want more products pushed down my throat.

  • March 2, 2009

I use it for both. At a personal level it keeps me in the loop with friends and associates around the world and it helps promote my blog which is a hobbyist thing.

In the “day job” I am involved with road safety and I am starting to use it to get to young drivers who we cannot reach through conventional/traditional media – http://www.twitter.com/saferroads

  • March 2, 2009

I use it for both. I find it a great resource to ask questions, answer questions and learn from some of the very knowledgeable people that use Twitter.

  • March 2, 2009

I’m enjoying the responses to this question, Darren! Thank you for asking it.

For me business is pleasure; it’s also personal. However, the nature of my work — teaching new business owners and entrepreneurs how to adapt and use the tools of big business to increase their chances of small or online business success — can be isolating.

Twitter bridges the social gap for me and allows my students (and others whom I’m not working with yet) to see that I am a real person of many dimensions, interests and idiosyncrasies, just like them. In my professional role, there are fewer opportunities to express that side of my personality.

Twitter also brings me into contact with people whom otherwise I’d be unlikely to meet and interact with. This benefit greatly enriches my life and makes it possible for me to serve my students at an even higher level and more efficiently than if I were simply left to my own research methods and viewpoints.

I have not grown my population of followers to any great size as yet (it’s a slow process for me) but I do have relationships with most of them in that I know what they are working on and what’s important to them and when I come across ways in which I might help them, I use Twitter to pass the information along and to share words of support and encouragement with them when appropriate.

Unexpected responses to my tweets frequently bring joy to my day; I would certainly miss that if Twitter were to disappear and obviously I did not know that would be my experience when I first started tweeting a year ago. A response leaves you feeling you’ve made a valid contribution in the Twitter world.

Finally, the 140 character limit forces me to hone my thinking and expression; I believe I’m becoming a better writer (as well as better educated) as a result. Certainly, I welcome the opportunity for increasing interaction with followers and do my best to remain *tweetworthy* so, if you haven’t connected with me yet fellow Tweeters, I’d love to meet you.

I tweet both about personal stuff (cute things my kid says, funny stuff that’s happening, how my vacation is doing) as well as business stuff (tips, offers) … and stuff that’s both (what I’m reading, motivational quotes, RTing interesting stuff).

I don’t see a division between my personal life & my business life — since I’m a mompreneur, it’s all squished up together. And, part of my marketing strategy is a “personal” approach, which I use in my eZine and other marketing communications — so being personal on Twitter (and Facebook) is in line with the strategy I’ve used for years. :)

Can’t tell you how many times people have said they’ve bought my product/service because I have a cat or because I have a kid. Really, that stuff matters.

I currently use Twitter for building a community of like minded people. I share interesting news with them and try to help them on any specific technical problems.

But, I am planning to leverage my community for a few of my business ideas in the near future.

So you can very well call it – for business and pleasure :)

i use it for both, i think . . . it is mostly for research, to find resources for my teaching and classes, to advise students, and to guide or efforts to rebuild curriculum in changing times. i want to teach a class on social networking and communication eventually, so it really is research! and i am finding it is a very efficient and effective way to do research because it is so current, and i can tap into a lot of sources at once. i am also networking, both professionally and personally. and this is just plain fun, anyway you look at it! but it is new for me, so perhaps i, too, will experience phases….good question!

Although my business really IS my pleasure, you could say I really use it for non personal use. When I first signed up, my tweets were more personal, now I simply like to tweet cool stuff that could be viewed by anyone, whether they know me or not. After all, no one cares if I’m in line at Peets Coffee or getting my hair colored, but they do want to know the latest thing I’ve blogged about.

It’s hard for me to answer this one because the people I engage I consider friends, but my tweets are not always business oriented. Ratio is about 70% bus, 30 other

  • March 2, 2009

I use Twitter as another way to offer time management tips, computer tips, links to my articles and other articles that help people work smarter or grow their business.

I never do personal stuff. I follow very few people because so many are addicted and “everyone tweeting about the minute and mundane personal aspects of their day to day life.” They’re also tweeting about mundane aspects of business. Quite frankly, I’m getting bored with Twitter because of this.

  • March 2, 2009

Like just about everyone else, I use Twitter for both personal and business — and would be hard pressed to distinguish between the two at times. I’ve noticed how some Tweeple start out in one category and then morph into the other quite organically.

I’m planning to acknowledge Twitter in general and folks in particular in my new book. The support I received on all levels was/is remarkable.

  • March 2, 2009

I use Twitter for both personal and to promote my site. I just started using it and can already see the power of it. I recently sent updates while on my Vegas weekend away and people liked seeing what I was up to!
I think it is a great tool as long as it is used well.
It gives me something productive to do in a taxi or waiting for an appointment

  • March 2, 2009

I also use Twitter for both business and pleasure.

  • March 2, 2009

I use Twitter mostly to promote my Blog. My blog is mostly about my personal life as a Mom of two boys, so I do sometimes Twitter personal and mundane “what I am doing now” stuff.” I try to mix it up with helpful and informative stuff as well. I haven’t given my Twitter profile to my offline friends. I use Facebook for that.

  • March 2, 2009

Twitter is another great tool that helps me blur the lines between work and play. It works for both and has trained me to leave short comments.

  • March 2, 2009

    I use it for both.

  • March 2, 2009

Personal use only. I wish I could use it for work, but our corporate IT proxy blocks out social networking sites, that is except for Plaxo and LinkedIn.

  • March 2, 2009

I’ve started with an all-in-one twitter account that carries my name @annetteschwindt. With some practise I realised it might be good to have an own account for my work and so I created @schwindtpr which turned out to have been a wise decision. I still use the first account for my other activites though. So yes, I use twitter for both business and pleasure – and sometimes even business can be pleasure! ;-)

  • March 2, 2009

    Hey there,

Yes we use Twitter as a business tool, however, if you were to read back two years of our twitts you very easily get an insight in Transfers culture and the expertise or talent we work with.

Twitter is awesome as it allows us to keen into contact with most of our clients and talents passively.

Also, I would be very interest in showcasing these comments on our site if that’s ok with you guys?

Looking forward to hearing from you guys – great article and site.

    Cheers,

  • March 2, 2009

Being new to Twitter, right now I am using 1 account for both business & pleasure. And yes, both do overlap as many others have mentioned. However, I can see the usefulness of having separate accounts. Time will tell. Since I live on a farm in a rural area of WV, I am enjoying connecting with people I would not otherwise have the opportunity to meet. Yes, there are alot of mundane posts, but what is mundane to one may be of interest to another? Such as, I walked 6 of my dogs today (labs) and had fun watching them all play together. Saw 3 geese on my pond & can’t wait for Spring. Used to live in the city & so glad I don’t anymore!

  • March 2, 2009

75% business, 25% pleasure. I have found it interesting to connect primarily with like minded people around the world who are interested in church marketing.

  • March 2, 2009

Very interesting discussion. Yes, Twitter is becoming an important business tool, especially in marketing. I love this blog because it’s doing a pretty difficult job: trying to keep up with Twitter. Has anybody done a survey about Twitter? I launched one last week I’m trying to get people to take – all about how they use Twitter nowadays. The data will be shared publicly. Please take it – it’s only 11 questions! Thanks and keep up the great blog.

    Twitter Survey URL: http://tinyurl.com/aquk8u

  • March 2, 2009

I use it to promote my blog, but I’d say 95% of my posts are about the topic of writing or talking with other writers. I try to keep myself reasonably focused and my posts topic-driven, because no one really cares what I’m *doing*. But I do like to talk about what I and others are *thinking* or reading.

I never follow marketers, SEO people, make-money-online people, anybody who follows thousands of people (that tells me they’re looking for bulk followers, and not interaction), people hawking ebooks or people whose profiles have ZERO @ replies and instead are all posts about their own blog or website.

  • March 2, 2009

I use it for both but its heavily geared towards business. I try to answer questions and help people in my industry.

It’s a fine line though because I try to be as tranparent as possible so using it for business crosses into personal.

1 great thing about twitter is you can find anyone using it in the way you want to. Want to talk about your lunch and trip to the gym or fishing or marketing. You will find people using it in the way you do.

  • March 2, 2009

I am a newbie, I think. I’ve been on twitter for about 2 months and I want to use it or business but am waiting another two or three months until I am confident in my own voice before striking out and using it for business application.

  • March 2, 2009

I use it about 50/50 for both.
I love the connection with others while watching Top Chef, and enjoy learning more from the thought leaders as well as offering my own cutting edge opinions.

I confess it’s not easy to stay focused on the business side.

  • March 2, 2009

I use Twitter for personal updates like updating the articles that I read or what I am doing (This is what Twitter is meant for). But also use Twitter to post about the new articles that I write

  • March 2, 2009

This is a very interesting debate.. Twitter can offer amazing possibilities for businesses as part of their overall marketing plan, however businesses need to first understand the rules of engagement… that is where so many go wrong…

I use Twitter, to share; resources, knowledge, ideas, opinions, tool, infomaton, I also share personal chit chat, and I also promote myself, and my expertise.. But I dont sell anything.. I just continue to offer help, support and guidance.. People then as they get to know and trust me, check out my website, and then start to engage with me…

    Best

  • March 2, 2009

I use it for both and see it as a way to build developing trust and relationships with people (i.e. networking), as well as using it to punch above my weight (helping to increase the visible size of my web presence).

There is also another important factor for me, a lone home worker. Twitter is like having a virtual open office. I can talk to my friends/colleagues, they way one does in a shared office, even though they may be hundreds of miles or even continents away!

    Long live Twitter!

I have started using Twitter around 4 days ago and so I am still trying to understand all the applications and such…So far the only thing I know what to use it for is to share with the world the insignificant things that happen in my life… I do find it amusing to read about other people’s so…

Having none of my friends on there and only being a university student I doubt it that people like me might use for other reasons but pleasure…Probably as my own career starts to happen I will swift, but till then…

    Love twitter though :) !

  • March 3, 2009

I use twitter to mostly tweet about industry information and updates about my blog. Unlike facebook I hardly know any of my twitter followers personally. I have tried converting my friends to twitter however they have not seen the light yet.

I tweet about web pages and articles I come across and this could be considered personal tweeting. A bit of both is fine.

  • March 3, 2009

I use Twitter purely for work since it allows me to interact with a lot of people, is very user-friendly, and the microblogging isn’t a big jump from the blogging I do for my organization.

My Facebook account, on the other hand, is strictly for personal connections and I don’t have to spend large amounts of time there to keep up with everyone. Far more of my closest family and friends are on Facebook than on Twitter anyway.

So the separation’s a no-brainer that continues to work very well.

  • March 3, 2009

I use Twitter both for Business and Pleasure. I am using my twitter better than before. Gained some followers. Learned how to use it properly.

All Thanks to you and your TwiTip Blog.

  • March 3, 2009

I’m using it for both business and personal. It’s a great tool to add customer service value for traders and others who follow the exchanges (CME, CBOT, NYMEX), and for me personally it’s a great way to connect with people to talk about skills and interests.

  • March 3, 2009

I personally enjoy using twitter for both personal, business, and just whatever. My iD is not focused on my niche, rather just my online handle. I would hope anyone interested in me would also be interested in the work I do, so I combine the two with Twitter.

Furthermore, this is the first actual Social Network site that I’m using for business, so we’ll see how it goes, so far so good. I’ve had a few blog announcement posts retweeted and getting marginal increase in traffic.

  • March 3, 2009

Well in my case i use it for bout reason some times serious or juts business stuff help people, and some often to say some crazy thing about my funny life.

I had see one twitter user that its a satellite, its use it to report in which part of the space according to the earth he are, that was really funny for me.

But juts how i state in you don’t like twitter what are you doing there or never the less why you fallow some one that you don’t care what he say

    Than you for the pots.

  • March 3, 2009

I started Twittering about 7 months ago with the intention of using it for both business and personal purposes. And at the time, I thought that it was simply a “what am I doing right now?” updater. But I finally started really studying the site and quickly came to the realization that it is much much more than that. After two weeks of intensive Twitter immersion, I use it to keep current, keep connected and keep engaged with a worldwide community. IT’S FRIGGIN’ AWESOME

  • March 3, 2009

It’s a constant tightrope walk the business v personal. On the company Twitter account I try to engage, answer and contribute, with a mix of our area of business, but I am mindful that it can’t be all business, there has to be some of me in there. Oh, and before leaving this, let me say I’ve had some terrific story leads via Twitter, so it’s most definitely for me a two-way street.

But, on the weekend for the first time on Twitter I shifted my tweeting over to my personal account. Most of you might be aware that there was a bit of commotion on the Twitter radar in the form of the #fisting hashtag. My first thought was, well, there’s a lot of Australians in on this, who seem to have a healthy interest in tech, so I’ll see if I can’t connect with a few people.

Fun as it was, and it was for the most part fun (before the bots got into the whole shebang), with a fair bit of clever thrown in, I made the switch over to my little-used personal account. The right decision I feel, plus it forced me to be a little more active with with followers and followings on that other account, and now I have a nice little niche of people, and I get to use a variation of my voice on Twitter.

I use twitter for both biz and personal and with similar frequency. My personal tweets range from mundane to helpful industry/social media-related info/tips. My biz accounts are just biz. I keep my online personalities seperate.

Twitter is a great source of inspiration for me. I use it 100% for business…and for me, business is pleasure. I have connected with great entrepreneurs via Twitter and keep learning about new tools that I would not have known otherwise. Technology truly fascinates me.

I absolutely LOVE learning and sharing valuable information and twitter makes it quick and easy.

I use twitter to engage with like-minded folks, both in business and personally. But my tweets are more about things I found useful and that my followers might find useful also.

    Those I follow are :
    - Bay Area people to find out and share what’s going on in our neck of the woods
    - people in my industry
    - people who inspire
    - people involved in church ministry
    - people involved in helping/advising small businesses in social media and blogging
    - people who share similar values

I tweet about all these things, and also “listen” to others’ tweets about all these things. I am looking forward to engaging with these folks IRL (in real life) at local tweetups.

I don’t see a need for having a separate business account at this time.

Business, work, personal, pleasure, and all the above. I started using twitter as a way to stay connected with friends (@ryan_burns). Then I started to use twitter to try and make money (@gr8deals). Then I started using it when I started working for a Bible study software company (@logos). Then I started using it to connect people and promote my ,a href=”http://www.goingtoseminary.com/”>seminary website (@goingtoseminary). Finally, I started using it to make my friends laugh (@sphil_hons). As you can see, I’m all over the place with my twittering. However, I’ve enjoyed the unique experience that each account has brought me… except when I occasionally tweet on the wrong account…

Mainly professional, but I definitely use it for both. I’ve found it’s a good way to get out health news I wouldn’t have time to mention on my blog and to give healthy tips to my followers. But it’s also a great way to connect and socialize with others using it.

When I first started on Twitter: This was almost a year ago. As far as I know Twitter was only a month old. I used it for an hour. Not for anything specific.

When I got back on for the first time 8 months later: I started using it to learn how to use it. I thought it was for self promotion and blog advertising. A way to follow people’s updates about their websites.

Once I got into an argument with Aloha Arlene: I started using it to be more social than blog/business.

Once I realized I was getting less followers because I was spitting out personal stuff: I stopped being on twitter every day.

I know that Twitter is suppose to be a social platform where people connect. And I’m not denying that it does just that. But people are still too quiet. They’re still too closed off. Twitter would be perfect for social networking if people were more social.

I see it as a social business network versus a personal social network. People want and they want a lot. And to be honest, I dont think internet users are very interesting in knowing what coffee you drink, unless you blog about coffee.
