I asked this of my followers on Twitter a while back and the result was fairly split (although perhaps it ended up being that people used Twitter slightly more during the week) but I wanted to ask it again in a more formal Poll.
I’d also be interested to hear whether your use of Twitter changes on the weekend? Does it become more personal, is it more about ‘catching up’ on sharing some links that you didn’t get to during the week, are your tweets perhaps a little more ‘inebriated’ on the weekend
?
Interested to see the poll results but also hear your comments on this one!

Looks like we are pretty much evenly addicted – with those who are the most addicted leading the race…
Definitely more~ as I am now able to give myself a Sunday as a day off, I am able to spend time visiting the sites of those I follow, commenting, asking for Guest Bloggers, and scanning my alerts to see who needs study help and what help I am able to provide (no charge)
Right now I am looking for the Twitter tool to create groups~ methinks the thesis students could use a reading group…
Less… because there’s less interesting stuff going on during weekends. Not much to tweet about.
There’s no difference to me as I work on both workdays as weekends as a result of being self-employed. I tweet when there’s something interesting as long as I am on my mac.
I definitly ‘interact’ more on the weekends … and i find that Saturday mornings are the best so far. i think it’s due to not having to ‘think’ as much about my day to day job … so i have more free space in my brain

I tend to use Twitter about the same amount and the same way as I do during the week. Usually its just me sharing links, talking about news, sharing random thoughts and occasionally, telling people what it is I’m doing right now.
Working solo and from a home office without a keen distinction between week days and weekends = no diff in tweeting frequency for me. I suspect the content is the same, too because I often use Twitter as a virtual water cooler.
I have noticed busy periods at certain points in the evening when it looks like conversations shift to more personal topics (e.g., home and family activities). And even though critics (usually non-Twitterers) complain about reading minutia, I enjoy finding out what everyone is having for lunch.
I checked my stats out on http://www.tweetstats.com. About the same on Saturday, but less on Sunday. I’m most talkative Friday.
Definitely a lot less.
Unless there’s a barcamp on.
Then more.
At the moment its about equal. Ideally I want to stop twittering on the weekend and break away from all technology completely, however with all these excellent iphone apps, especially geo and pic tweets I find its ever more part of my daily life.
I wonder if people who work from home and are independent consultants or run their own small business tend to use twitter more? It is their virtual water cooler as Meredith at 7.57am mentioned.
Same here, my working week is now 7 days with afternoons off here and there and my working life very much meshed with my personal life…
D.
I do use Twitter less on the weekends, but just a little bit less.
Well, I guess I use it more to “ramble” at the weekend, which probably doesn’t do me any good with my followers… Hmmm… *loves his followers*
I’m almost always at the computer, whether for work or play, so I tweet the same every day.
I think the most difference between tweets daily is the number of people online that I correspond with frequently. More than half of my tweets are conversations with others, so if
they are not tweeting, I’m not tweeting back.
I use it maybe a little more on the weekends, but it’s usually because I’m avoiding work
dont you love how i voted “less on the weekend” as i voted…..on the weekend
Saturday,Sunday,Wednesday are my most active days.
So yes,I tweet more on the weekend.
I tend to tweet about the same weekdays and weekends, but i definitely think the content of the tweets change. During the week i’m at work, mainly in an office so i’ll always have an eye on the news and if something catches my attention i’ll have alook and tweet about it.
At the weekend i tend to be out alot more so tweets are more observational and i’m more interested in what’s going on on a local level if you like.
Saying that, i’ve been in all day today and still managed to tweet regularly…
If you’re like me, you tweet both biz and personal type stuff… and that continues everyday regardless whether it’s the weekend or not. I see many of my followers talking more about football and personal things on weekends and that’s cool. But plenty of social media folks are talking about the industry links on the weekend as well. I’m addicted either way.
I have to share the computer more on weekends so I end up using Twitter less. Although I am playing catch up today since I didn’t do much tweeting this week.
Hey Darren,
I usually don’t advert my own posts in commenting, but I wrote a guest post for BloggerNewbie that she’s posting on Monday. She’s posting on Monday because my post is about how the blogosphere closes down on the weekends.
Cheers,
George
I’m equally active on all days. Simply because I’m on my laptop all the time EVERY day!
I use Twitter about the same on weekdays as I do on the weekends, but I tend to use it more at night than during the day. It’s distracting during the day when I’m trying to work on other things, but at night, I can really dive into the Twitter stream and converse.

hmmm…self employed people don’t work only Mon-Fri. I am fairly even on Tweetting.
Funny enough, I tweet most on Saturdays, and early in the morning – when I wake up and respond to all the tweets I missed. Since I am a student I tend to tweet less on days I have class – Mon morn, Tues, Thurs, Fri!
But here is a side Q for u – If someone unfollows you, are you insulted? B.c I personally don’t mind, but I wonder if others do
Good question: I THINK I tweet less on weekends. The reason might be I’m not online as much as usually because I don’t work as much as during the week. Though being self-employed means I’m never completly offline.
I believe I Tweet the same during the week as well as the weekend.
Working at home and having a computer around all the time is a great temptation to go on and see what’s happening.
I wish it were different as I find my life is too tied to the computer.
I am self-employed and work from home, but I try to take at least one day per week when I don’t even turn on my computer, and that day is usually Saturday or Sunday. When the computer (and work) is always there, beckoning to me, I have to make a concerted effort to give myself some down time — to rest and create balance in my week. People will survive without reading my tweets for a couple of days!

In my case i donw surft the web on weekend, onlest a special fats.
@tkpleslie
Twitter is too addictive, but, like air, it is what I breathe since I work online all the time and am self employed/work from my home office when I’m not travelling for a client which is usually about once a month or so.
I have to actively kick off of twitter or else it WILL interfere with my work day. I also am, lately, working to leave it ALONE some part of every weekend so I can collect my thought, process all that I’ve heard in the stream, and just be mentally quiet, but it’s a struggle.
There’s tway more coming at me than I can handle at the moment. Just keeping up with all of the different ways to use twitter can be a full time job. Not to mention using lots of words that begin with t in regular conversations!
For instance, snow takes for snow flakes. Why is “t” such a sticky leTTer?
It’s fun to see that other people commenting are having some of the same issues but, seriously, this tool allows me to feel connected to others from all over the world no matter what time of day or night it is and, as a human, we are connective creatures and cannot, for the most part, live in a human vacuum as many of us do a large part of each day now.
First, we went to hang out at Starbucks but couldn’t really start up a lot of conversations without seeming odd or too lonely. Now, we can go sit there and have a LOT of conversations and feel surrrounded by like minded people.
The trick is to take twitter offline and start more and more twitups. That’s what will happen, I think, and Starbucks should be joining that conversation and hosting them actively…or else there is an opportunity here for another mega chain with tons of locations to steal market share.
@katywrites
I have a horrible habit of completely dropping out of Twitterverse on the weekend, even though I’m a mobile addict. Perhaps I’m trying to shun all technology, but since I actually enjoy posting and interacting on Twitter, I’m not sure what the avoidance is all about. Definitely working on this!!
@wilda.rowe
I use twitter a lot less on the weekend. I try not to use the computer on the weekend. I use it all day long and that is enough.
@iWebBuddy
I can not recall 100% if I use twitter more or less on a weekend, because I use it almost everyday.
But, according to my memory, I’ll have to say I use it more often on a weekend.
Mostly because it is very addicting,
