Managing Multiple Twitter Accounts may be Easier Than Many People Think, but the Answer is definately not Splitweet!

The only good trhing about Splitweet is the brand watching feature, but other than that you are much better off with Hootsuite, Peoplebrowsr, Seemstic or even Tweetdeck.

There are a lot of multiple Twitter account management apps out there, unfortunately, the best one (in my opinion, Hootsuite) is wanting to charge money to manage more than 5 social sites.

Then there is Peoplebrowsr, but it has too many functions that unless you have a supercomputer, it slows you down.

Splitweet has the brand watching function down, but other than that it sucks.

All the others have their strengths and weaknesses, but Hootsuite is just the alaround best; it can handle as many Twitter accounts as you want , plus Facebook, Facebook Pages, MySpace, LinkedIn, Foursquare and Ping.fm. I just wish I wasn't on such a shoestring budget, because it would be the first and only social media service I would pay for.

Like the many (online)apps I have tried this one has nu user management. But none of the apps do, I wonder why that is?

Imagine you have 3 twitter accounts, one for each brand. Every day a few people start following one of those accounts. Twitter sends out an e-mail every time someone follows you. So far so good. All apps will let you read, respond, search ... through different accounts. But none will tell you that there are new followers that you may want to follow back.

So, what happens is that I have to first open my e-mail and check who's following. Then I click on the link. It opens in twitter, but it opens with the account credentials that I uses the last time I logged in to twitter and I can't see which credentials are used. SO I need to sing out and sign back in using the credentials of the account which the new follower is following. Then I can click on follow.

In the beginning I followed the wrong people from the wrong accounts, because I forgot to sign out and the e-mail opened in the wrong twitter account. It was a mess. I don't understand why it seems I am the only one to find this troublesome.

Long story. Short question: guess: What is a solution to this mess?

As a workaround for those who want a desktop solution for web apps, there is a workaround. I installed the Prism for Firefox addon. Once installed, if you click on the Tools menu and select "Convert Website to Application" it will turn just about any web app into a desktop app. So you can have Splitweet and/or HootSuite as an application if that's what you prefer

I have 5 different names for different purposes. I use hootsuite and sessmic desktop to manage all of them. It seems to work well so far. Split Tweet looks neat as well.

I have found hootsuite to be a solid web app to manage multiple accounts. I like the tracking that I can do on clicked links in my tweets when I use their tiny url shrinker. I also like their Hootlet browser tool that lets me easily post things. I'm open to other options if something does allow me to view and add other tweeps easier.

Thanks for sharing this, Jason. I've been using http://hootsuite.com successfully to manage multiple Twitter accounts, but I'll certainly look into Splitweet. The only thing about Hootsuite that I find cumbersome is finding and following new tweeps. Am interested to learn whether Splitweet makes this easier.
