8 Photo And Video Sharing Tools For Twitter You May Not Have Seen

Since new Twitter tools are popping up what seems like every day, I figured I’d give a list of some of the latest ones I’ve seen people discussing. There are the standards that most people use, like TwitPic and TwitVid.io (which we covered before here) but here are some you may not have seen before.

Photo Sharing

  • Twitgoo is probably the most “Twitter-like” one of the bunch. You can tweet right from there (after logging in) and include an image right from the section where you post your Tweet.
  • Pikchur Use your computer, cell phone, or any other mobile device to post your pics, and Pikchur takes care of distributing them all over the social web for you! Offers a paid “PRO” package to track stats too, which is different.
  • yfrog 1. Upload an image or video from your desktop or from an URL 2. Enter your message 3. Enter your credentials to Twitter 4. Click post it. VERY simple interface. From the same people who created ImageShack.
  • TweetPhoto offers a lot of the advanced options you might enjoy for free: Stats, geo-tagging, favoriting/retweeting, etc.

Video Sharing

  • TwitLENS Simply login with your Twitter credentials and you are ready to start sharing media on Twitter. Uses OAuth.
  • 12seconds Create short video clips that you record with your webcam, mobile phone, or upload. Show people where you are and what’s going on. Uses OAuth.
  • Twiddeo Upload from the web, your cameraphone and record from your webcam.
  • TwitC Use Twitc to organize, search, view, comment, share, embed, batch download, collect, favorite, rate uploads, view timelines and profiles, post links to or embed files, and send updates to your profile on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and 35 other sites.

Are there any others that I may have missed? Have you tried any of the above? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Sunday Link Love Roundup: Pixels, Maps, and Blue Whales

I love getting tips and links submitted to us for Twitter related stories, tools, and so on. Here’s a roundup of what’s come into my inbox over the past few weeks… feel free to send in your discoveries or new Twitter tools to us via the contact form.

  • 24 Free Sets of Twitter Icons in “pixel” style by Eren Emre Kanal.
  • TwtMaps – a nifty new web app that allows you to enter your Twitter name and get a map that shows all your friends locations, as well as a little bit of info about each Twitter friend. (It’s cute, but it only shows a small fraction of people. Mine only showed me 59 of the 879 people that I’m following who are following me. I currently have 1665 followers and am following 1115… but it’s cute for a “sample geographic” idea.)
  • proxifeed – Per the proxifeed site, “Proxifeed’s fully automated service creates relevant postings and broadcasts them into your Twitter feeds. Lean back and see your follower base grow!” Seems that basically they set you up with automatic tweets in your niche pulled from other feeds determined by keywords or manually added by you. They freely admit that it’s a test bed for contextual advertising on Twitter, however I think there’s some merit in this if it’s used properly. (If you’re using proxifeed, or have tried it, and are willing to write up a full review for TwiTip, please contact us.)
  • Billy Twitters and His Blue Whale Problem – Still not sure if the Twitter connection here is intentional or not, but it’s pretty funny none the less! (hat tip – David Halpert of SciFi Watch)

Quick Twitter Tool Review: Buzzom

At some point in time, everyone who becomes a “Power Twitter User” bemoans the fact that it’s hard to follow too many people, or keep up with the emails telling us who’s following us. Twitter’s site interface doesn’t make checking your followers or adding/removing followees very easy or intuitive.

Introducing Buzzom, which uses Twitter’s API to make it all super easy to manage your follower/following list at lightning speed. (more…)

TwiTip Reader Review: HootSuite

by Jeff Russell- Follow him @iapam

Like many of you, I’m a member of so many social media networks, the last thing I wanted to do is join another one.  But this Twitter thing just kept coming up over and over again. I kept thinking what am I going to do with a microblogging service that is limited to only 140 characters? My time is limited as it is, and if I’m going to invest my time, like any business expense, I want to know my ROI. Yes, it really comes down to how is getting a Twitter account going to make me MONEY!

Well, after creating an account, and identifying and following key people in the my industries, I knew this was like nothing else out there.  Not only did I create one Twitter account for business-related tweets, but I quickly created another account for my Foodie alter-ego. I use twitter to keep up to date on the latest breaking news, industry trends, my competition, as well as getting creative ideas for articles and marketing.

Sunday Twitter Roundup: Charts, Twesents, and GPS

We receive literally dozens of emails every week about new Twitter tools, applications, and different ways to use Twitter. Every Sunday (almost) we post a few of them for you all to try out and let us (and the developers who emailed us) what you think! Here’s this week’s list:

Datatoy – Turns tweets into charts. You can tweet about your visits to starbucks, calorie consumption, glasses of water you’ve finished… and Datatoy will automatically produce a graph for you. You can also use widgets to take it to your blog if you want to display your graphs to the world.

Twesents lets you send virtual gifts to your twitter friends. Everything from cutesy to risque, you can send gifts just like you can do on FaceBook.

ShortGPS – A new service that helps you save postal addresses or locations in a unique and short URL to exchange via tweets, email, or SMS. Locations can be changed via the Map and a satellite/hybrid version of the map are also saved into the URL.

Sunday Twitter Tool Roundup

TwitLookup – Just released, a new tool for twitter users which allows them to lookup dictionary, weather and more from twitter. They’re soon adding hashtags and support for other lookups shortly.

TweetIE – An extremely simple Twitter add-on for IE called TweetIE, it works for IE 6,7 and 8. FireFox plug-in is also available. When it is installed you can select a text on the web page and click a toolbar button, it will send a text as an update to your twitter account and attach a short URL of that page.

multiTwit – New, free widget lets you send tweets to multiple Twitter accounts at once. Helpful for those who just can’t get beyond their multiple twitter personality disorder, and need to have more than one account.

TweetBrain – A purposefully built crowdsourcing tool for the Twitter community. Many are using TB creatively for polling, contests, customer support, even educational purposes.

Twitpaper – Another site for 100% free Twitter themes, layouts, and backgrounds. Site claims to add 5-10 new themes a day and will also design custom themes for free.

Brand Monitoring in Twitter: BackTweets Alerts you to Linking Activity

by Steve Broback founder of 140: The Twitter Conference – Follow him @sbroback

Most businesses who are trying to stay on top of what’s being said about them (or their competition) are very familiar with Twitter’s standard search engine. Search.twitter.com will provide a reasonably comprehensive set of results for term and hashtag references, but that may not be enough for businesses who need to stay on top of all relevant conversations.

One shortcoming of Twitter’s standard search is that it will fail to catch those tweets that may have linked to your/your competition’s site, yet don’t contain the specific terms or tags that you are probing for.

Surviving the Twitter Learning Curve

by Eric Stoffle – Follow him @topicturtle

For new Twitter users, understanding Twitter and how to use it may change in those first few days after signing up. It could mean working through the learning curve or it could mean too much frustration to continue. Some people stay, others move on, realizing Twitter wasn’t for them. I know of some people, including me, who stopped using Twitter but came back and tried it again to find out they really enjoyed it. The problem is, as with many things in life, there is a learning curve. I want to offer three important steps to surviving the Twitter learning curve.
