A recent and much anticipated development at Twitter over the last 24 hours has been the addition of their new ‘name search‘.
Now you can search for people either by their username, first name or last name. Results are displayed in order of follower numbers.
Results seem a little buggy but it is better than nothing – although I’m still using Twellow if I need to find someone.

@farrhad
This was a much needed feature.
Better late than never
@SmallFishMedia
Darren, I believe Twitter always had name-search, but they had taken it offline for some time. I see that they have finally put it back online now. Thanks for the update!
@tilatequila
I see you in the corner grilling me for over there, cause you know your boo would like to hit me straight rare, nothing up inside while he pulling on my hair, hate it or love it, the underdog’s right there!!
I ain’t tryin’ to fuck your man, everybody knows he’s my number one fan, I done been there, done that bitch and, you wanna get mad bitch I don’t give a damn!
@hectorhenry17
thank you i notice it too, I use it looking for my title henry and sjogreen seems really good.
Thank you for the small post.
@seeking_balance
Maybe I’m mistaken, but it seems it worked better before they took it away. I thought you could search multiple search terms and it would search the name, location and bio information keywords. I was certain it used to work like that and was so excited to hear it was back. Alas, I still can’t search out quite the ways I was hoping for. I’ll check out Twellow, though.
The thing is that this had been around for a couple of years. Then they took it down for a few months and now it is back up. I don’t understand what people think that this is something new. At least there are other twitter users that understand that this is already been out for a couple years and it was taken down for a couple months.
@storyboardlife
man, now we can just follow the big wigs!!!
@PhilJohncock
Thanks, Darren, as always!
I noticed that the new Twitter “name search” results in a more current Tweet. Search on Twellow resulted in a Tweet that is 10 days old.

Yes, I used to use that function quite a bit. It was quite annoying when they took that search function away.
@mayursomani
Wow! I didn’t even notice that they took it off, Now that “it is back”, I am sure that they took it off
@neilcreek
I searched for my surname “Creek”, and Twitter suggested “Do you mean ‘creep’?”
@steveborgman
Thanks for this much needed advice. I don’t know how many people have gone by the wayside because I could not find their Tweet id. I apprecaite this new feature!
@the_gman
Well it’s about time they finally added this feature. Long overdue actually.
It’s good to see this back. A great feature for certain. It helped me find a bunch of friends that were dumped in the soup.
It does not work. I cannot find my own name in a search result. Other people have posted the same issue on the web.
