Welcome to TwiTip

Lately I’ve been discovering the power of Twitter in new and fresh ways (at least they are new and fresh to me).

I write about much of what I’m learning on ProBlogger but I think if I wrote everything that I wanted to write about Twitter over there it’d probably put a few of my readers off - after all ProBlogger is a blog about blogging.

So - I’ve decided to start TwiTip - a place where I can focus upon Twitter without worrying (too much) about coming off as obsessed!

Want to learn more? I’ve shared a few more thoughts on my story and what I want to achieve with TwitTip on my About TwitTip page.

Other than that - you know as much as I do. Keep in mind that this blog is all very new. I’m using the Thesis theme (which is amazing - but which will take me a while to get just right) and still doing lots of ‘tweaking’. It’ll probably also take me a few weeks to get into full swing of publishing. I’m not intending this to be a daily publishing blog (at least not in the short term) - so subscribe to my feed but don’t expect to be inundated with new posts multiple times a day!

Thank you so much for another great blog! I’m looking forward to learning a lot from you!

2 Kyle 11.03.08 at 12:00 pm

Do we really need a blog dedicated to Twitter tips?

3 Darren Rowse 11.03.08 at 12:12 pm

Thanks Christina.

Kyle - I guess we’ll find out if people want a blog on the topic :-)

@Darren Rowse
Wow, first blog on twitter tips itself.
So what would we get out of this?
Marketing tips from twitter?
Social media networking via twitter?
or
How to effectively use the twitter?

Congrats on your newest project! This will be a nice site to refer people to. Over the weekend, I had several people ask me about Twitter at a conference. It will be nice to be able to say, go to TwiTip!

Darren…i was waiting for a long time for such a blog..Twitter is such a wonderful thing…it’s the next biggest invention after Google….thanks for the blog…

7 Cory O'Brien 11.03.08 at 12:39 pm

In response to honeytech, I hope to see all three! Twitter has so many uses that I think everyone can get out of it what they want to, so it would be great if you cover all aspects of Twitter, from the social media and marketing side to the personal and family/friend side.

It appears that this landmark, pacesetting and revolutionary blog will be part of history. What a genius of an idea. Thanks, so much for going deeper as well as illustrating a great teaching point about blogging and social networking.

Looking forward to assimilating more Twitterverse information!

I love the thesis theme. I’m sure after some tweaks and a few posts, this blog will come together well. Check out the twitter plug in so you can post your tweets on the sidebar of your blog.

Great to see your new blog Darren. I knew you were starting a new one and I should have figured it would be a twitter blog! I’m looking forward to seeing how this all turns out for you :)

12 Ross 11.03.08 at 4:38 pm

I’m fairly new to twitter (2 months), and am still unsure of correct protocol & best ways to communicate using this medium. It will be good to see what ideas and thoughts come up on this blog! -Ross

hi Darren… great concept, a niche within a niche! It also took me awhile to get on Twitter and I still have to figure out how best to use it without it becoming another time suck on the net.

14 vimoh 11.03.08 at 8:51 pm

Hey Darren! Great to see this initiative. Am subscribing. :)

Good luck with the new blog, I’m sure it’ll be as equally helpful and informative as your others.

Hi Darren,

I have just noticed a bug in your theme. This first post says that it has no comments, yet when I clicked on this individual post it shows 14 comments have been made on the site.

Might be something you want to look into.

17 t 11.04.08 at 2:12 am

Hi Darren,

I’ve written about Twitter a few times from the standpoint of “I just don’t get it”. Ok, I downloaded Spaz and have been fairly active for about ten days. So now I get it. A bit. I’ve gained followers and am following the same. A lot are friends I’ve made through tumblemoose and this is another way for us to keep in touch and updated.

Oodles to learn still - I imagine this is where I’ll pick up most pointers.

Cheers

George

Congratulations on your new blog Darren.

I am fascinated by your new blog name and wondered whether you might have called it ProTwitter to link it by name with ProBlogger.

I think there is a need for a blog with this focus. I have heard you and others write about the significance of Twitter and have opened a Twitter account to find out what it is all about. Even from their site I could not work it out to my satisfaction and I later closed my account.

I’ll subscribe to this new blog and see if I get a better idea of what it is all about.

I like your courage in launching your blog when it is half-dressed and allowing your readers to see a work in progress.

Have fun with this new blog.

Good to be in touch!

Geoff

Twitter use is certainly surging. Since I first started using it, the take up particularly in the last few months has been very noticeable in my followers. Your poll seems to be indicating this trend. I’ve also noticed a big lift in Aussie users … maybe we’re at the famed tipping point.
Glad you like Thesis too. I think it’s a sensational, flexible ‘theme’ by a bit of a web design master, Chris Pearson.
And thanks for sharing how you set up a new blog from scratch. Really useful for new bloggers.

Good luck.

I am excited to hear about your new site.. Your main site and book have been a big help to me. I am planning on signing up for Twitter soon so I know this site will be a big help also. As a side note, I use and love Thesis. As easy as it is to use there are still challenges to learning how to customize it. Particularly if you don’t know much coding. I would love to hear how you do that as well.

Your “Why We Twitter” youtube did not load. Otherwise, great idea and follow through. I have added this site to my favorites and will visit often in near future to learn with you about this wordpress and also to take advantage of all you have learned about Twitter.

I am not sure I will use Twitter. I think it is more for people who have huge social needs and is probably the group therapy of the near future, but the process of communication interests me.

Thanks

Although I read problogger I just discovered this blog through following you on Twitter. I’m both new to blogging and even newer to Twitter. So far I’ve learned a lot of very helpful things that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise from both your blogs. Thank you!

Stephen

23 Chris 11.06.08 at 12:45 pm

Darren,

I enjoy reading problogger and now twitip. Just got to say thanks! Thanks because though I love twitter I’ve found it hard to keep up with all the new things without letting it take over my life. Hopefully you’ll be tweeting your posts from here along with the problogger ones.

Thanks again!

24 Robert Witham 11.08.08 at 8:34 am

I am excited to see that you have launched this blog. I delayed using Twitter for a long time because I “didn’t get it” but have been using it for a few months now. I am slowly figuring things out but I look forward to this blog as a solid, reliable resource on doing Twitter right.

25 Young 11.09.08 at 12:51 am

Come up to say hello.
I will try to learn as many as possible from Twitip, haha.

26 Mark McWilliams 11.11.08 at 12:31 pm

I’m looking forward to how this blog evolves Darren, and I love the name TwiTip! :D

As with a few others, this really IS the first blog I’ve seen that talks about Twitter, and Twitter only. And I suppose, if you think about it, then this should pan out to be quite good. (Mark wishes he’d started this blog himself!)

While I’m here too, I hope to possibly learn a thing or two, so I’m in for the longrun!

Thanks
Mark

Wonder what Kyle, one of the first commenters, is saying now about TwiTip.com? :)
Thanks for the great tips to help all of us more effectively use Twitter for networking online!

Darren,

Love the TwiTips. Can’t wait to get the email notification with new tips posted and enjoy reading them thoroughly. I’ve learned a lot from the information that you have provided and plan on using your advice and recommendations. Thanks for the insightful information. Absolutely wonderful……

32 JB 12.23.08 at 4:50 am @twarketing

Very impressed with your Twitter Tips. Been following you on Problogger for some time now and was one of the first to see your newest blog creation last month. I have already recommended your blog to my readers and look forward to sending those who are new to Twitter to your Twitip to learn more.

All the best

JB

Hi Darren –

I LOVE this blog. As a new “twit” :), it has been very helpful.

You wrote just a month or so ago not to expect a lot of tweets from you. I enjoy your tweets as they are insightful as to what is useful, sources your are reading, etc. Has your posting increased dramatically? What is changing in either your understanding or comfort of Twitter?

Phil

Nice tips…Happy New Year 2009 to you aaaallllllll……

35 Anne 01.19.09 at 1:42 am @annemai

Thanks for this blog and I look forward to reading your updates. While I’ve had a twitter account for about a year using it initially just to keep my family - spouse and 3 teenage kids — organized, I have since added a second account for my professional life. It’s definitely been a learning experience — with some less than ideal experiences (you can read about my first twittercast experience at http://maistrategies.wordpress.com/2009/01/14/twittercasting/ )

36 Sarah 02.04.09 at 2:03 am @nursarahlam

We do need a blog about Twitter tips and guidelines or any other useful information related to Twitter. There are so many new twits and old twits around and we all could learn something new everyday.

37 Mabel Iam 02.20.09 at 9:35 am @mabeliam

Great info
Thanks a lot

38 Vern at AimforAwesome 02.27.09 at 2:02 am @AimforAwesome

Darren - you’re at ground level of something that has huge potential. I might get into this space as well - who can pass it up? It’s like, if someone said you could create a blog about Google 10 yrs ago… it would have been a smart idea. There’s plenty to know about Twitter - and so much more on the horizon!

You know there are only 550,000 searches for “twitter” registered in the google keyword app right now? That’s IT? Next most popular term? Twitter search at 12,100. With the talk about Twitter right now those numbers are going to go up by 10 x in 6-8 months. That’s might be an underestimation. I think a safe bet for sure.

Good luck on this blog - I think you’re going to do just fine with it for some reason! lol.

39 Kyoti 04.23.09 at 7:52 am

Thanks for this blog. I’m new to Twitter, in fact I haven’t even signed up yet because I wanted to see what it was and how it worked and your blog about it is just what I needed.

40 David 05.18.09 at 5:24 am @dbelaga

Thank you for this very valuable blog. I rely on it as one of my primary sources for how to better use Twitter. I appreciate your time and effort.

41 Jack Brooks 05.23.09 at 10:16 am

Darren,
I’m learning first before signing on to Twitter and look forward to your info, as I do on Problogger as well. Thanks for your time and effort!

42 rainwebs 06.02.09 at 1:54 am @rainwebs

Meanwhile, it is no question that Twitter has momentum. So, since the beginning of 2009 this blog is definitely a must have ;-). I’m happy that a man with so much experience in blogging anyway is doing this for the micro-blogging, too.

I myself have started a Twitter account to test if it is possible to create a list of interested multiplicators month before my ICEfaces book is published (http://blog.rainer.eschen.name/icefaces). At the moment the list of ICEfaces users and interested is slowly growing. Twitter also creates interest in my blog, that also inspired the publisher to ask for a book project.

The problem with Twitter today is the market positioning. I myself needed some time to understand why business people recommended Twitter. If you read something like “Tell us what you are doing at the moment” instead of “Which projects are you currently working on” this is irritating. I’m not interested what you eat at lunch, but what you think or discuss about your project at lunch. This difference is pretty important to recognize the benefit of Twitter.

Meanwhile, I visit a blog and if I find something interesting in it I search for the Twitter id. I skipped to use RSS readers. Instead Twhirl is working day and night on the machines I’m working with.

This even allows me to be the first in submitting fresh links to DZone ;-).

43 Mike H 06.18.09 at 12:09 am @mrhallinan

Thanks for doing this!

44 Renee 06.23.09 at 2:16 pm @mapchat

Hi, Darren. Question. Can I set TweetDeck to update my facebook business page rather than my personal profile? I’d appreciate any advice. Cheers, Renee. Love your posts & tweets.

45 Janet 06.26.09 at 1:06 pm @Kyoti13

How do you reply to twitter comments?

46 Amit Bhagria 07.04.09 at 12:44 am @https://twitter.com/younghrmanager

Hey Darren,

Thanks for coming up with a site dedicated to twitter power. Hope to see lots & lots of learning. Wishing u success.
