I have one main account that I use for my personal and semi-work-related tweets (finding information, sharing web sites or tips i found around the inter-webs and such).
I have another where I write one 140-character-or-less poem every day.
I have another where I share only links to various mobile news, sites, etc.

  • November 13, 2008

I only have one account, I feel that no matter how many businesses you have, you are the one running it, and Twitter about how your community wants to connect with you personally, hence one is sufficient. Of course this is only one perspective and may be different for other people.

  • November 13, 2008

Isn’t one account enough? I guess if I was in more than one market, had more than one blog with a totally different audience – I MIGHT mess with multiple accounts.

When I start Tweeting super regularly (which I won’t) I’ll think about it then. :)

  • November 13, 2008

Have one account is tough, having more would be difficulty to maintain it would seem to me. Like Jack said, unless it was used to brand your blog or site, then having more than one account would seem fine.

At the contest, I haven’t done poetry since freshmen year. Time to whip out the old notebook.

  • November 13, 2008

    One.
I can see people thinking that business and pleasure should be separate, but seriously, posting anything online that you wouldn’t want clients/coworkers seeing is pretty dumb!

  • November 13, 2008

I only have one. I don’t think I could keep up with more!

  • November 13, 2008

I can barely keep up with ONE Twitter account–why would I want more than that? (grin)

  • November 13, 2008

The vote button isn’t working for me for some reason but it’s 1 for me as well.

  • November 13, 2008

What would be the idea behind several accounts? Would it be to hide identity or just to generate different traffic for a different project?

  • November 13, 2008

One account is enough to maintain and survice. See how nice people are when they have websites and identities tied to them compared to anonymous chat room?

  • November 13, 2008

Only one, because I just talk about everything on my main account, but I’ve set up and maintained a few different Twitter accounts for clients before handing them off, so I guess 1.5 ;)

  • November 13, 2008

@Tumblemoose I use 2 accounts, one for personal and one for corporate.

  • November 13, 2008

Yep – different traffic for different project/site/niche.

  • November 13, 2008

That contest is fun. I don’t care about winning – I already own a MacBook Pro and have no interest at all in the other stuff, but haikus fit so well with Twitter:

I think the Haiku/fits with Twitter so nicely/I may stick with it

    :-)

I have one account – pcunix.

I have one account/it seems like enough for me/more would be too hard

Enough – I have to get up very early tomorrow!

  • November 13, 2008

I started off with one account that personal and professional, but decided to add one just for my travel guide Website.

  • November 13, 2008

I’m using 1 twitter account currently, mainly because I’m trying to consolidate my on-line presence. I have 3 very different blogs, and have kept my identities seperate on the three of them, but have decided to bring them together to hopefully get a bit of synergy. We’ll see if that works *laughs*.

I have a couple of twitter names on the side in case I decide to split myself up again.

  • November 13, 2008

I only have 1 too, although I’d like to have one in every niche I blog about but I can’t keep up. One is too much already. :)

Tips on how to manage time to tweet, become responsive while at the same time get things done are great to have, Darren. I’m sure I’m going to get one of these posts in the future…

  • November 13, 2008

I don’t own one, and I enjoyed trying to think of a haiku, its been a while. Only thing I didn’t like was how it got mangled (line breaks) in the twitter.

    @guder

  • November 13, 2008

I just use one. One is enough for me.

  • November 13, 2008

I only have one account on Twitter. I believe that Twitter requires time and having more than one account is just going to be a problem. Also, instead of creating “fakers” or accounts which represents certain objects/sites, it’s much better to have an account that represent yourself. I always believe in showing who you are rather than creating accounts for the sole purpose of promoting various niches. For me, Twitter is all about creating personal relationships.

  • November 13, 2008

I already got my Haiku written and submitted, not super great but unique and funny, and it better be enough to get me a new MacBook Air!

  • November 13, 2008

Thanks for tipping us off to the haiku contest!

I have two accounts. The first – @gradontripp – is my “general use” account, and @sm4sc is the account for Social Media for Social Change, our organization that uses SM tools to raise awareness for Non-Profits.

I have one for now. I use Ubiquity & Twittelator to read & post. I’m considering a second. My Facebook friends might want to see pics of my kids, but probably don’t want in on a conversation about using RTM, Evernote or Ubiquity.

  • November 13, 2008

Well… I got one twitter a/c and i’m more than happy with that. I don’t see why i need any more than that.

  • November 13, 2008

I see what you did, nice way to repurpose traffic! Here is some great content, but before you go, vote on this poll.

    Brilliant piggy bank, mate.

  • November 13, 2008

actually I was just wanting to post two things and didn’t want to interrupt readers with two posts – so I jammed them together. But if you think that’s brilliant…. I’m willing to take the credit :-)

  • November 13, 2008

I only use one… That’s more than enough to keep me distracted from productivity. :D

  • November 13, 2008

I had been using one, but since the election twitter/political tweets became popular I started another account to tweet with like-minded people about politics to try and weed out some of the meanies who were rude and couldn’t agree to disagree without insults, rude behavior, etc.

    sonyanews

I wrote the first comment and so far i’m the only person to advocate for more than one account. The main reason for the separate accounts is that on my main Twitter account @Sonyanews I write about new media, journalism and other basic things. That is the one account I use for conversation, I stream it to my facebook and myspace and friendfeed. I started @tweetly just for writing poem tweets. I thought it would be cool for people to use Twitter for poetry without doing it for clicks. I write tweet poems when I have the time, I follow only poetry accounts and I read those also when I have the time. My tweetly links only to my friendfeed page. I also just started @mobilinks as a way to automatically share (via delicious and tweetlater) interesting mobile sites and news. It is not for promotion, I just thought people would be interested in a Twitter account just for sharing links to the latest mobile news. That account also links to my friendfeed page. I believe it helps my followers on Twitter for me to have separate accounts. Each account states it’s purpose and people who just want mobile links or poetry tweets only get that information. I’m not saying that works for everyone, it is just what works best for me.

  • November 13, 2008

Well, i would like to use more then one account for handling all my businesses, but till today i dint find a good software which allows me to be logged in in several twitter accounts simultanoiusly, so that i can tweet whatever it is necessary in the different accounts. So the overhead to log off and relog in is just to much to handle several accounts at the same time. Does anyone know if there is such a kind of software out there?

  • November 14, 2008

I have two: one I use to promote the website I work for (distributing our articles, sharing other stories, engaging in conversations with interesting folks to discuss post-advertising ideas) and the one I use to promote myself. And the website.

  • November 14, 2008

I use each account for different tweets and purposes. My name account just broadcasts without mixing up tweets from others. Ark Lady is my most active account and posts from my blogs, animal related finds, and provides interaction between my followers and those I follow. I also have a friend feed set up and another one just for blogging and internet related posts.

  • November 14, 2008

i dont undertand the logic of using more than one account…Twitter is not an email application

  • November 15, 2008

my oo00_Mr_K_00oo account is my most used, however I have a work account and an account for another blog I own – both which have at least one tweet a day to them.

  • November 16, 2008

I have only one Twitter Account twitter.com/digisteps. I have one blog Digitel Steps.
    So, Digitel Steps twitter.com/digisteps.

  • November 24, 2008

I have my main Twitter ID (@xgravity23), which I use regularly, and a private account (@linden_phd), which I use for tracking the work I accomplish on my PhD.

I’m hoping to acquire what appears to be an unused Twitter ID, (@lam), to switch my main tweeting to, after reading Darren’s article about doing just that. But I haven’t heard back from Twitter support yet.
